Intergenerational Project Volunteering: Wii Sports

bb’s café and Volunteering Queensland helped Elderly residents at Kelaston Hostel beat the 2007 Christmas crowds to one of the hottest items on a kids’ wish list; a Nintendo Wii.

Kelaston Hostel is the first of over 50 aged care and rehabilitation facilities across Australia to receive a Wii Sports console and games as part of their intergenerational volunteering program.

This project provides a platform for aged care residents and rehabilitation patients with varying levels of physical ability to safely participate in a range of competitive sports – but also provides another chance to mix and socialise with younger generations.

This is a great example of how simple ideas can make a world of difference when volunteers come together to make something happen.
