Your
Wish is Granted Through Volunteering
For
Cassandra Slimmon, volunteering with the Starlight Children's
Foundation has helped her learn to appreciate hospitals
and doctors after being diagnosed with breast cancer
in January 2006.
A
fund raiser and wish granter with the foundation, Ms
Slimmon, says that she became involved because she wanted
to see a different side of the world after working as
a Personal Injury Claims consultant.
“I
wanted to do something worthwhile after dealing with
the greedy world of personal injury claimants. The Starlight
Foundation has given me the opportunity to do something
fulfilling.”
Ms
Slimmon says that her most fulfilling experience with
her organisation is having had the chance to grant wishes
to two children and also helping to fund raise at events.
“The
major highlight in my volunteer work is being able to
tell families that their wish will come true. In particular,
taking my wish child on his shopping spree and watching
him fulfill something that was important to him.”
Ms.
Slimmon says that volunteering for the Starlight Foundation
has given her a bigger appreciation of life because
it is so worthwhile.
“Receiving
a thank you from families after their wish has come
true is pretty special.”
