Innovative Approaches to Making a Difference:
Social Initiative & New Forms of Engagement

Wednesday 13 May, 9am till 12.20pm (followed by lunch)
Tudor Park Community Recreation Centre, Clarks Road, Loganholme

$45 per person
Traditional forms of not-for-profit organisations and community efforts in addressing issues of social injustice and the global challenges are struggling to be effective. We need innovative approaches to really make a difference in issues as serious and complex as climate change, social inclusion and global social justice.

New models of engagement are emerging at a time when recruitment in traditional volunteering is in decline. These new models reflect individual and community energy and passion for involvement in worthwhile causes and activities.

The pace and depth of change in engagement offers unprecedented opportunities for our communities to take a lead role in driving and facilitating the discussion about how we can work with and encourage, enable and support new forms of engagement and social initiatives.

The forum will provide four perspectives on practice:
• Alissa Phillips / Sarah Moran - Social entrepreneurs in practice
• Jelenko Dragisic, Volunteering Queensland - CREW - How one not-for-profit is dealing with the changes
• Dr Susanna Chamberlain, Griffith University - Social enterprise
• Jason Reid, Community Capacity Building, Logan City Council - What it can and cannot do
